The awarding of the Alpha Beta Lambda Education Foundation Alpha Phi Alpha scholarship should be based on need, with consideration given to merit and the moral character of the candidates.
The candidates should be African-American high school male seniors in Fayette, Bourbon, Clark, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, Scott and/or Woodford counties with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
Affiliation with other clubs will be considered (National Honor Society, other Honor Clubs, etc.).
The candidate must be accepted to Kentucky State University. The Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation Scholarship will not be given in conjunction with an Athletic Scholarship.
Each candidate must have an on-site interview with the Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation Scholarship Committee.
All candidates must submit an application for consideration. Each candidate will include an essay on why he should be considered for the scholarship.
All applications for the scholarship must be received by the Scholarship Committee chairman by the application deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
The Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship is awarded contingent upon the candidate enrolling in school. Documentation in the form of a transcript or current class schedule must be provided to the scholarship chairman at the beginning of each semester.
The Academic Scholarships may be awarded to seven (7) high school seniors each year.
The Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation Academic Scholarship is a $1,000 per academic year.
The requirements for renewal of the Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation Scholarship are as follows: Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better providing a record of grades (i.e., transcript for each semester) Active involvement in campus/extracurricular activities Submission of an essay describing recipients’ college experience explaining how the scholarship has been beneficial and how the student is perpetuating a commitment to academic achievement and the principle of service (i.e., campus/community involvement, etc.).
Once the Scholarship Committee has determined that the student has satisfied the renewal requirements at the end of each year, a check for $1000 will be mailed to the student. Students are allowed to use the funds towards tuition, books, fees, housing, course supplies and other resources to offset the cost of their educational experience.
